Vernon Hickle Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 18, 2025.
Vernon Hickle, 79, of Collins, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada, Iowa. A celebration of life is planned for March 16, 2024, at the Collins Community Center from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. A private family burial will follow at a later date in the Collins Evergreen Cemetery.
Vernon was born on May 20, 1944, to John and Pansy (Buttz) Hickle in Seymour, Iowa. He grew up in Collins and graduated from Collins High School in 1963. He married the love of his life, Amber Smith, on March 8, 1965. The two lived in Collins, where they raised their three daughters.
Vernon was a jack of all trades. He delivered bottle gas, dug tile, drove truck, was a carpet layer, a roofer, a tire builder, and a Story County Maintainer for several years. He was also a proud member of the NRA. He loved spending time with his family, going to swap meets and flea markets, splitting wood, fixing things and collecting stuff. His favorite hangouts were out by the fire or at Eddie's Snacktime.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters Tracy (Bill) Birchmier, Kristy (Jon) Armentrout, and Lori (Jerry) Arends; grandchildren John (Andrea), James (Marisa),
Phelan (Luke), Megan (Auston), Jodi (Tyler), Kevin, and Tyler; great-grandkids Kyleena, Nadia, Vivienna, Alessandra, Greyson, Emmalyn, Ila, Patrick, Journey and Jagger; sisters Marge and Pat, as well as many nieces, nephews, close friends, and his cat, Goofy.
Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Amber, great-grandson Kallum, sister Barb and brother Norman.
Fredregill Funeral and Cremation Care has been entrusted with the care of Vernon and his family.
