Mr. Vernon Tyson Melton, 77, passed away Saturday evening, April 20th, 2024, while at MUSC Health – Florence Medical Center, with his family by his side.
Mr. Melton was born in Wadesboro, NC, a son of the late May Tyson & Margaret Ann Huggins Melton. Vernon loved gardening, coin collecting, and retired from Dupont after 30+ years of service. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving our country in Germany.
Survivors include his children: Shelby Melton of Bishopville, Todd (Tamara) Melton of Cassatt, and Shaun Matthew Melton of Camden; grandchildren, Kendall Melton and Grant Melton; step-grandchildren: Courtney Pickard, Taylor Johnson; step great-grandchildren: Teagan Johnson, Leah Pickard, and Westyn Johnson; siblings: Don (Mary Kay) Melton, Wayne (Beth) Melton, Mack Melton, Marie (Steven) Butler, and Arlene (Jackie) McCaskill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Ann Melton; son, Jamie Melton; siblings: Tony Melton, Ann Sowell, and Edna Jean.
His funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 on Wednesday afternoon, April 24th, 2024, from the Bishopville Chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Reverend Dr. C. Bruce Watford will officiate with burial following in the High Hill Truelight Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
