Vernon E. Olson, 95, of Marquette, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 15th, 2024 in Lindsborg, Kansas.
Vernon was born in Lindsborg, Kansas on December 10, 1928, to Anna Marie Otelia (Swanson) and Eddie Martin Olson with his older brother, Kenneth, welcoming him home.
He graduated from Venango School in 1942 and Marquette High School in 1946. Vernon remained on the family farm until 1963, with the exception of his military service. He enlisted in the United States Army and served from February 1951 through February 1953 and was released as a Private 1st Class.
After leaving the farm, he spent some time in Kansas City and returned to Salina. He worked at Wyatt Manufacturing until he retired in 1991.
On September 23, 1973, Vernon was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Moore.
They resided in Salina and enjoyed bowling, golf, and spending Saturdays at the movie theaters until their health required them to rely on nursing home care.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Anna Olson; wife, Mary Olson; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Helen Olson; great nephew, Kenneth D. Olson; parents-in-law, Herman and Lena Moore; sisters-in-law, Julia Moore, Maggie Blenis; brothers-in-law, Jack Moore, Marlowe Moore; and other extended family members.
Survivors include his nieces, Carylee Nelson (Barry), Patty Kolling; nephew, Steve Olson (LaReta); great nieces, Marti Bauer (Ryan), Malinda Just (Brad), Megan Olson, Monica Wood (Bryce), Kasey Weis (Zach), Carly Peterson (Lars); along with 7 great nieces; 4 great nephews; extended family; and many friends.
Funeral service will be held at Elim Lutheran Church, Marquette, Kansas on March 20, 2024 at 11:30 am with private burial prior to the service at Roselawn Cemetery in Salina with the Marquette American Legion providing military honors.
Memorials may be made to the Elim Lutheran Church, Riverview Estates, or the Marquette American Legion, in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio St., Salina, Kansas 67401.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Riverview Estates Staff, Marquette EMS, and the Lindsborg Hospital Staff for the excellent care Vernon received.
