Veronica A. Alfred was born on March 10, 1979, in Chicago, Illinois, to the loving parent Mary A. Matthews. From the beginning, Veronica’s bright spirit and warm heart touched everyone who knew her.
Veronica had a deep love for life and found joy in the simple things — doing Karaoke, spending time outdoors, enjoying good food, and cherishing every moment with her children. Her faith in God guided her, and her love for her family and friends was unwavering. She had a contagious laugh and a radiant smile that could light up any room and lift the spirits of those around her.
Veronica was known for her kind heart and giving nature. She often went out of her way to help others and was always there with words of wisdom or comfort. Talking to her came easy; she made people feel heard, valued, and loved. Her generosity and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Adonis and John, her grandmother Mary Lee Alfred, her aunt Deborah, and her cousin Kevonte.
Veronica leaves to cherish her memory her beloved eight children — Jayshyia, Shane, Ciara, Reette, Patience, Jerry, Quadir, and Mary — and her precious grandchildren Treshyia, Adonis, Osiris, and Amir. She is also survived by her significant other Jesus Vasquez, her siblings Lavert, Jermaine, Tiffany, Latasha, Eric, Victor, Darri, Bryan, and Michael, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
We love you, Veronica — always and forever.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27
