Obituary published on Legacy.com by Calhoun - Mania Funeral Home on Dec. 28, 2025.
Veronica Anne Brady (nee Gleason), 94, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in New York to William and Catherine Gleason, she grew up in Brooklyn, the youngest of four children. Ronnie met Joe Brady at a church dance when he marched right up to her and initiated a conversation. Joe & Ronnie married in 1964 and later settled in
Rutherford, NJ on Lincoln Avenue where they raised their family and enjoyed the most delightful neighbors.
Ronnie worked in the insurance and banking sectors but her true joy was being a stay at home Mom to Joe and Kathy. She was very active and a member of the PTA, a class mother, joined the bowling team and chaperoned many field trips where she always shared the most fabulous stories and vowed it was her last time as she exited the bus.
Ronnie was a lifelong Brooklyn Dodgers fan often reciting the entire game for her brother, with her ear to the radio, while he was at school. She continued her love as a Yankee's fan and enjoyed cheering on the new roster as well as remembering the legends of her time.
Mom was a beautiful soul with deep faith, lovely Irish blue "smiling" eyes, a kind heart and a warm smile. She could be ready at a moments notice for a lunch date - just grabbing her pocketbook and her "yellow" lunch sweater.
Affectionately known as "Yaya" by her older grandkids, school pick up was special with Yaya in the car as everyone knew immediately they were in for a big treat - "early dinners", weekends in Wildwood, spending time at the lake and even simple errands would be fun as all would get a surprise! "Grandma" shared fun times with her younger grandkids watching cartoons, singing songs, enjoying bakery treats & coffee and being gifted many arts & crafts "masterpieces". She was the perfect co-pilot and snack holder on car rides. She loved to travel (Ireland!) and even accompanied Kathy on many of her business trips. She believed dessert should accompany every meal.Mom was the light of our lives and left us with much love and delightful memories.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Joe and survived by her children Joe (Corey) and Kathy (Al) and proud Yaya/Grandma to grandchildren Danny, Jackie, Caitrin and Brennan. She leaves behind many beautiful nieces and nephews, her best friend Margaret Ryan and dear family friend Cindy Hines.
Family and friends are welcome to visit on Tuesday, December 30th, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford. A Noon Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the Church of St. Mary, 91 Home Avenue, Rutherford. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to your local animal shelter.
