Buranich Funeral Home Inc.Veronica “Ronnie” (Bamberger) Schmidt, 89, formerly of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Thursday at her home in Zephyrhills, FL, surrounded by her loving family.
Ronnie was born on July 6, 1936, in Syracuse, to the late Francis and Marion Bamberger.
Ronnie and her husband, Walt, began wintering in Zephyrhills, FL, in 2000, enjoying many years as snowbirds before making it their permanent home in 2021.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all, Ronnie had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. She found joy in gardening, baking, and cooking, and generously gave her time volunteering at Holy Family Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Ronnie also loved playing cards, dominoes, Bunco, and BINGO, as well as reading and completing word searches. She was a former member of Holy Family Church and a current parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Zephyrhills, FL.
Above all else, Ronnie’s greatest joy was her family — especially her husband of 70 years, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was truly a friend to everyone, and everyone loved her.
Ronnie was predeceased by her grandson, Danny Schmidt; and sisters, Rosemary Schmidt and Elizabeth “Fay” Volz.
Surviving are her loving husband, Walt; son, Jack (Jeanne) Schmidt of Camillus; daughter, Linda (Jerry) Crossett of Liverpool and Port Charlotte; grandchildren, Nicole (Drew) Bucktooth, Christopher (Kendall) Schmidt, Shane (Katie) Crossett, Emmey (Tyler) Lorey, and Meghan Crossett; great-grandchildren, Blake, Gavin, Dylan, Cruze, Gianna, and Sophia; and several nieces, nephews, godchildren, and many dear friends.
To celebrate Ronnie’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
A memorial Mass will follow in the church.
Ronnie will be laid to rest on her 90th birthday, July 6, 2026, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219 or to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
