Veronica A. Singleton was born on August 25, 1944, in Jamaica, Long Island, NY. She passed into her eternal rest on December 12, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father, Elbert Dillon; mother, Aline Weaver; and her husband, Dennis Singleton, Jr.
Veronica, also known to some as, "Ronnie", was a 1962 graduate of Huntington High School (Newport News, VA). She worked faithfully for 20 years at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. (X18) and volunteered at the Newport News Social Services Dept. where she transported families to and from their destinations. She loved shopping! Her favorite stores were Walmart, JCPenny, and Target. It was nothing for her to pick up her grandson, Joseph, and drive around town in her car that they named, "Squirt", shop for a bit, before taking a break to eat a meal. One thing's for sure, you could not stop her from attending her yearly Christmas Alumni dances with her classmates from Huntington High School.
She leaves to cherish her memories; her loving sons, Dennis Singleton, III (Denise) of Hampton, VA, Elbert M. Singleton (Lori) of Kansas City, Missouri, and Thomas D. Singleton of Hampton, VA; four grandchildren, Raven S. Singleton (Atlanta, GA), Jacob E. Bolden (Hampton, VA), Joseph I. Singleton (Hampton, VA), Ryan G. Singleton (Kansas City, MO) and her best friend, Sheila Price of Newport News, VA.
We also want to express our gratitude to the Sentara Hospice team and Shannon Webb for your support and assistance.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 22, 2023 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th, Newport News, Va. 23607. The family will be receiving guest, Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m at the home of her son, Dennis.
