Vessie Davis Obituary
Vessie Morl Davis, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away February 17, 2026. Vessie was born in Wild Cherry, Arkansas on January 24, 1939, to parents, Eli Ben Davis and Chestine Staggs Wilkes.
Vessie dedicated 45 years of his life to his work as a machinist, retiring in 2004 after a steadfast career. He took great pride in his work, believing deeply in the value of honest, hard work and quiet dedication. Those principles were the foundation of the life he built and the example he set for his family. Through his steady presence and strong work ethic, he taught those around him the importance of responsibility and integrity.
Outside of work, Vessie found joy in working with his hands. He loved woodworking, and he could often be found at the table piecing together a puzzle, enjoying the satisfaction of seeing it come together. As a young man, he was an avid fisherman and hunter, embracing the quiet and simplicity of nature.
Vessie especially cherished time spent with family. He had a gift for bringing everyone together, often hosting gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and the smell of hamburgers sizzling on the grill – everyone’s favorite. Those moments at the house created lasting memories that his family will hold close for years to come.
Vessie was preceded in death by parents Eli Ben Davis and Chestine Staggs Wilkes, wife, Bonnie Davis, daughter, Barbara Davis.
Vessie is survived by wife, Mary Davis, daughter Sheila Wilcher (Greg), grandchildren Connie Hahn (Tim), Samuel Bruce (Katie), and Will Wilcher, great-grandchildren Elliott Bruce and Henry Bruce. Vessie loved his family and was a family man through-and-through.
Friends may call from 12 PM – 2 PM on Monday, February 23, 2026. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM all to take place at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East Funeral. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
