Vick Alan Short, born on May 8, 1957, in Brazil, Indiana, passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, North Carolina, on July 20, 2025, at the age of 68. A man of resilience and kindness, Vick navigated life's challenges with a good heart and a generous spirit.

Throughout his career, Vick dedicated himself to hard work and service. He took pride in his role in lawn care maintenance at Camp Lejeune Base, where his meticulous attention to detail and strong work ethic were highly regarded. In earlier years, he cherished working alongside his father on a moving truck – a job that brought him many lasting memories.

Vick's passions extended beyond his professional life. An avid Harley Davidson enthusiast, in his youth he enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Vick also had a knack for mechanics, engines and working on cars. In quieter moments, he found pleasure in solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles- fun activities which challenged and sharpened his mind. Vick also loved eagles and collecting them.

Vick was a man of faith, grounded in his Christian beliefs, which guided him through life's journey. His strong opinions and caring nature defined his interactions; he truly cared about people and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. He was always being neighborly to everyone.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 15 years, Joyce Meadows Short; his beloved daughter Naomi Shultis (Victor) and grandchildren Emerson Shultis and Rowan Shultis, all residing in Richlands. His extended family includes his loving sister, Pamela Brinkley (William) of Jacksonville; and sister-in-law, Robin Milligan (David) of Richlands.

He is also fondly remembered by his nephews, Michael S. Urton (Amy) of Wake Forest and Bryan D. Urton (Vanessa) of Flagstaff, AZ; and five great-nieces and nephews, as well as two uncles and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David S. Short and Charlotte (Shoemaker) Short; brother, Steven M. Short; and his beloved grandmother, Delphia Woodard, all with whom he reunites with in Heaven.

Services for Vick are being held at The Potter's House Church on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 6:00 PM.

Though life was not always easy for Vick, his legacy is one of warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for those he loved. He leaves a permanent mark on the hearts of many, and he will be deeply missed.
