Vicki Garner

Vicki Sander Garner passed away on January 14, 2026, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri, after bravely enduring a lifelong battle with multiple sclerosis.

She was born on March 25, 1959, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Vicki graduated from Southeast Missouri State University, earning her master's degree in nursing, and dedicated her life to the nursing profession. Throughout her career, she served patients at numerous hospitals, spending many years working in Jacksonville, Florida. Even in retirement, Vicki remained a nurse at heart. Always lovingly reminding her family how to stay healthy, offering guidance, care, and encouragement with a gentle humor that never faded.

Following her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis in 1997, Vicki continued to give back by sharing her personal journey with students at the Southeast Missouri State University College of Nursing, helping prepare future nurses through compassion, understanding, and real-world perspective. In her downtime, she enjoyed reading and crocheting, finding comfort and peace in the quiet moments. She was a devoted and loving mother, aunt, and cousin, but her greatest joy was being a grandmother. She cherished her grandson deeply, and he was the light that sustained her through her final years.

She is survived by her children, Mykaela Garner and Garet Garner; her grandson, Brantley Coleson; her sister, Cindy Surlet; her sister-in-law, Laura Respondek; her nieces, Chelsea Gurley, Cierra Williams, and Chaylea Neace; nephews, Collin Reimann, Coltin Reimann and Pheonix Horton; and a host of many more.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Peter Garner, and they are now reunited in heaven.
