Celebrating the Life of Vickie Denise Shields-Easley Sunrise: November 15, 1954 Sunset: August 18, 2025 Vickie Denise Shields-Easley was born on November 15, 1954, in Dallas, Texas, the cherished daughter of the late Johnny Shields and Irvalene "Cookie" Shields. Vickie grew up surrounded by family and shared a lifetime of love with her siblings: Paulette Yvonne Shields, Robert Shields, Reginald Shields, and Lamont "Pal" Shields. She was baptized at the age of six at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, where the Shields family were faithful members for many years. From an early age, Vickie radiated confidence and pride. At a time when the world often told little Black girls to make themselves small and quiet, Vickie boldly defied the status quo. In 1968, while attending Atwell Junior High School, she became the first Black student on the drill team. The following year, she competed in Ms. Teenage Black America (Dallas, TX) and proudly earned first place. Determined to chart her own path, Vickie advocated to attend an integrated high school-a bold move at the time. Her persistence paid off when she was allowed to transfer to South Oak Cliff High School, where she earned a spot on the cheerleading squad her junior year. By her senior year in 1972, Vickie not only made the team-she became captain. She graduated in 1973 and went on to enjoy a rewarding career across several industries. On December 31, 2001, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Austin, TX, Vickie married the love of her life, Raymond W. Easley. She often shared how much she adored him-so much so that this lifelong city girl fell in love with the peace and stillness of country living. Vickie was a devoted aunt who poured love, encouragement, and wisdom into her nieces and nephews. She prayed for them, celebrated their milestones, and guided them when needed-but above all else, she loved them fiercely. She also sought to instill in them the same deep-rooted confidence and pride that defined her own early life. In her free time, Vickie enjoyed reading, cooking, hosting family gatherings, and capturing life's joyful moments through photography. Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Irvalene "Cookie" Shields, and her beloved niece, Shannon Shields. Vickie is survived by her beloved siblings, Paulette Yvonne Shields, Robert Shields, Reginald Shields, and Lamont "Pal" Shields; her devoted husband, Raymond W. Easley; her bonus children, Raymond Easley Jr., Eric Easley, and Bethany Moore; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family. Vickie will be remembered for her kindness, laughter, and the light she brought to every family gathering. Her legacy of love and devotion will forever live in the hearts of all who knew her. The love and fond memories of her family and friends will carry Vickie's spirit forward.

Condolences to the Easley & Shields family. Vickie and I were high school classmates. We went to the same high school together in Dallas, Texas. SOC Bears class of 1973. She was always smiling and had an awesome over all persona. Always smiling and full of cheer with a bubbly personality to match. Which looks like it has carried over to her full adult life. God bless you all & keep you in all the 1st. Ahead. Let GOD be your source and strength, courage & hope as we know he can be. My prayers for you all.
