In Loving Memory of Vicky Lynn Trussel
From one of her dear friends to all of hers-my deepest condolences for your loss.
With heavy hearts, we share that Vicky Lynn Trussel, Miller left this life peacefully on January 3, 2026, in her home, surrounded by love. A longtime resident of
Independence, Missouri, Vicky touched countless lives with her warmth, optimism, and vibrant spirit.
Vicky blessed those around her with an extraordinary ability to see the positive in life and to always look forward with hope. She found joy in dancing, the arts, flowers, exploring new places, and dreaming about what was next.
She was an alumna of University of Colorado at Denver, Colorado, Degree Master of Arts 1992, and a Bachelor of Arts as a 1964 graduate of Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. Vicky was a published writer and devoted much of her life to education, teaching English studies at various colleges throughout the Kansas City area. She was passionate about helping young people find their voices and tell their stories, striving always to make a meaningful difference.
Her strength and resilience through life's challenges remain an inspiration to all who knew her.
Many in the community may remember seeing Vicky during election seasons, where she faithfully served on the voter registration committee-often greeting neighbors at the ballot box with her welcoming smile.
Vicky was our "fancy friend"-whether through her beautifully curated home, her thoughtful potluck dishes, affectionately naming her car "Fancy Like," or her travels both near and far. She brought style, joy, and personality into everything she did.
She also served as Board President at Unity Church, where she made countless contributions and supported the Unity community with dedication and love.
Preceded in death by her parents Victor and Bonnie Miller and her Brother Corky.
She had a wide appreciation for music, once saying she loved "classical, country, old rock and roll, reggae… and I'm sure there are more."
One of Vicky's most meaningful wishes was simple yet profound:
If you love someone, let them know. It hurts to be left guessing. Compliment more and criticize less.
A private celebration of her vibrant life will be held. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal service.
Donations in her memory may be made to Unity of Independence.
It is with deep love and sorrow that we say goodbye to our sweet Vicky. February 6th 1942 - January 3rd 2026.
In the words of her best friend, Loise Tope:
"To me, Vicky was the dearest friend I ever had. When it comes to putting all that greatness on paper, it loses something."
