Victor Kirk Buchanan was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on January 24, 1962, to the late George E. Buchanan Jr. and Esther M. Buchanan. Victor accepted Christ at an early age at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Mandy Gardner.
He attended Kalamazoo Public Schools and joined the military after leaving high school. After his military service Victor worked for the United States postal Service for over 30 years. Vic was a loving and kind person, who never met a stranger, and would do whatever he could to help a person in need. His comedic personality and love for family will surely be missed. Victor met and married the love of his life and beloved wife of over 30 years, Mary Galloway.
Proceeding him in death, his father, George E. Buchanan, mother, Esther M. Buchanan, younger sister, Eugenia M. Buchanan, one son, Alex Rawls, one grandson Derek Ruffin, and one great grandson, Demacio A, Hampton II.
Victor leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Mary E. Buchanan, son, Allen/Rhonda Rawls Huntsville Alabama, 2 daughters, Santwika and Santana Rawls, Kalamazoo, sisters, Charlene Buchanan Dallas Texas, Dianna Jackson, Kalamazoo, one brother, Richard Buchanan, Kalamazoo. Nine grandkids, 4 great grandkids, a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and best friend of over 50 years Fredrick Wilson "We are One!"
Victor unexpectedly departed this world on May, 8, leaving a void that can never be filled.
A military service will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery - Augusta, Mi. On Tuesday, May 20, at 2:00pm.

Victor Buchanan was a Great Man and a Great Friend of mine. We knew each other at Kalamazoo Central High School and he was a 1980 Graduate and I was 1981. We lost contact because he went on his way to Serve in The United States Army and so did I. We ran up on each other working for The US Postal Service in Kalamazoo and we had fun out at the plant for over 25 years. He'd always say in his deep voice he had, 'LEEEWIS' and I'd reply 'WHAT'S UP HAMMER '. We battled the Veterans Administration bureaucracy together and we came out winners. I will miss him very much and I started looking around where he moved his family for a house but wasn't successful. Rest easy Victor and I will definitely continue to do what I do so that hopefully I'll make it through the Pearly gates to join you and have a good time in Heaven with you. Arthur LEWIS.
