Victor Jacob Cordes II, 81, of Woodridge, died on January 17, 2025. Born September 4, 1943, in Milwaukee, WI, he was the second child of Victor and Nella (nee Fopma) Cordes.
On June 23, 1967, Vic stood up as best man in a wedding and met and fell in love with the maid of honor, Sylvia Hajek. It was love at first sight for both, and they were engaged within six months. On September 28, 1968, they were married at St Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Cicero by Father Tom Murphy, later Archbishop of Seattle.
Vic was a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan and proudly wore and displayed the green and gold! He was also a Chicago White Sox fan by marriage and enjoyed going to ballgames and spring training with his wife. Vic was active at Christ the Servant Catholic Church in Woodridge and sang in the choir for 30 years. Vic was happiest with his wife Sylvia, and they frequented bed and breakfasts in lower Michigan. He was also a veteran and served honorably in 1967-1969 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and in Korea.
Vic worked in banking for his professional career, spending 37 years with Chase Bank (formerly Bank of Winfield). Knowledgeable in loans, investments, and routine banking, Vic built solid relationships with his customers. If he was off for a day, or week, they'd wait to come back and see him! He was also a roller blading enthusiast and would blade weekly to a weigh station of I-55 in Bolingbrook, a roundtrip of 38 miles.
Surviving Vic are his three adored children, Sharon (Francis) Cermak, David (Brad Ragusa) Cordes, and Diana (Kevin) Fricke; his cherished grandson, Gavin Thomas; and siblings Robert Cordes, Sharon Whittle, and Sandra Cordes. He is also survived by many cousins, godchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sylvia, in 2015; his precious granddaughter, Evelyn Rose, in 2011, and treasured sister-in-law, Jeanne Cordes, in 2025.
A Catholic Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 25th, 2025 at 11 am, at Christ the Servant Catholic Church in Woodridge, visitation from 9:30am – 11am. In a final act of giving, Vic wished to have his body donated to science. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Vic may be directed to the
