Victor Harmon Nixon of Little Rock, Arkansas, died on Tuesday evening, February 21, 2023 following an extended illness.

He was born in the home of his paternal grandparents, Hubert Harrison Nixon and Ada Andrews Nixon, near Lavaca, AR on June 26, 1940. He was the oldest child of Harmon Lib Nixon and Flossie Louise Rankin Nixon.

Victor was preceded in death by his younger brother Larry Dean Nixon, his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Frances "Freddie" Nixon, daughter Aubrey Nixon, brothers Ken and Wade Nixon and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Lavaca High School, Hendrix College and Perkins School of Theology. Before attending seminary, he served as the Youth Director at Clarksville, AR UMC.

While attending Perkins, he served as a student pastor at Eustace, Payne Springs and Pickens Spur United Methodist Churches in the Texas Conference. Following graduation from Perkins, he served the United Methodist Church for over 40 years in the following appointments: Associate Pastor, Central Avenue UMC, Fayetteville, AR; Pastor, First UMC, Berryville and Shiloh, AR; Pastor, Huntington Avenue UMC, Jonesboro, AR; Associate Director North Arkansas Conference Council on Ministries; Director of Arkansas Cooperative Parish Ministries; Senior Pastor of First UMC Batesville, AR; Senior Pastor, First UMC Russeville, AR. His final appointment was as Senior Pastor of Pulaski Heights UMC in Little Rock, AR.

He was a loyal member of the Hendrix College Board of Trustees. His volunteer commitments included: the Arkansas Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Arkansas Alzheimers Association. He was a member of the Arkansas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, the West Little Rock Rotary Club and the Christian Ministerial Alliance.

Because of his love of reading, he formed a book club at PHUMC. In addition to reading, he loved hiking, fishing, working crosswords, beachcombing on Sanibel Island and spending time with his family at their lake house on Greer's Ferry Lake at Choctaw, AR.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Memorials may be made to the PHUMC Foundation Victor H. Nixon & Frances O. Nixon Endowment Fund or the Harmon and Louise Rankin Nixon Memorial Scholarship Fund at Hendrix College.

A private family internment of ashes will be held at the PHUMC Columbarium. A public celebration of Vic's life will be held on June 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com

David and I have wonderful memories of Vic.
The high points:
His time at Central UMC in Fayetteville, when he led the youth activities.
Getting reacquainted when we were at Hendrix from 1978-82.
More contact when our daughter and family were members of Pulaski Heights and he baptized our grandson Ben.
Vic was always the same -- fun , happy and loving. We will miss him.
