Victor (Bud) Sharron, 89, of Shawnee Hills passed away on November 10, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family who adored him and the wonderful staff at Capital City Hospice.
Bud was born on July 15, 1935 in Plattsburgh, NY to the late Victor Sr. and Pearl Sharron. He joined the United States Air Force when he turned 18 years old. He was sent to Korea just as the war ended in 1954. He was a medic and served the men who needed care in the aftermath. In 1955 he was assigned to Lockbourne AFB (Rickenbacker) near Columbus, OH to serve in the Emergency Room. At the same time and for the next few years he also spent time in Nelsonville, OH training pilots how to survive if the unthinkable occurred. There is a monument in Nelsonville today honoring him and others who dedicated their service to this training.
Bud met the love of his life, Joan Ellen Richards, and they were married in 1960 in Columbus, OH. In 1962 Bud was sent to continue his service at Ernest Harmon AFB in Stephenville, Newfoundland Canada in the ER. He was then transferred to the AFB in Plattsburgh, NY where he continued work in the ER and established the Allergy and Immunization clinic. After 20 years of service, he retired from the United States Air Force.
Retirement brought him back to Columbus where he worked for a local allergist and then with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. He attended St. James the Less Catholic Church and St. Peter Catholic Church in Columbus.
Bud and "Joanie" as he called her, spent their retirement years together roller skating, taking day trips around Ohio (he loved to drive his cars), flying on his Flight Simulator and spending time with family and friends. He will forever be remembered as fun-loving, silly and easy to talk to. His grandkids and great grandkids called him "Cuteness" and "Muffy." He was happy to talk about anything and to anyone. His last days were spent sitting on his front porch and affectionately yelling out to all his neighbors passing by. He will be greatly missed by all.
Bud is preceded in death by: daughters, Catherine Mary Sharron and Anne Marie Kennedy. Also, sisters, Bonnie Ledwith and Marilynn Hoffman.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Judy (Joe) Davis, Barb (Brian) Catt and Mike (Megan) Sharron; grandchildren, Justin Riley and Kelli (Scott) Hall, Jamie (Matt) Chaffin, Joey (Nicole) Davis, Christopher (Kristen) Catt, Danielle (Justin) Catt, Eva and Landon Sharron. Also nine great grandchildren with a tenth on the way.
Family will receive relatives/friends and the "best neighbors ever" on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, OH 43065. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 10 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 6899 Smokey Row Road, Columbus, OH 43235 with Fr, Victor Mendez Cano as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 North High Street, Lewis Center, OH 43035.
