The sunrose for Victorio Carter Augustus Camp on April 20, 1975 in Los Angeles, CA to Carter Camp and Michelle Tyon. The sunset for Victorio to make his journey to the Spirit World on November 4, 2025 at the Avera McKennan Health Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Tatanka Inyan, Tatanka Inyan, Tatanka Inyan, Tatanka Inyan. We say his Lakota name four times to the four winds, his English name also the name of a Ponca War Chief came from exactly that and represented exactly that Strength and Love for His People. Victorio Carter Augustus Camp, our greatest leader who also knew how to be your friend, your leader, your relative, was a peoples person from the beginning. When his Ina, Michelle Richard Tyon, had him during a time when the movement was still very much active. Victorio was a Bigfoot Rider, he was hunka'd by Alex and Debbie White Plume and worked beside Debra fighting against uranium mining, gold mining, or any other kind of mining he was definitely opposed to the Keystone XL Pipeline. He was a part of the Standing Rock occupation in the high star camp and red warrior camp during one of the biggest gatherings of the nations since Wounded Knee. Victorio was also a good Eyapaha for his people not a easy task to do but he never let his people down. So at this time we would like to tell our Grandson, Our Son, Our Nephew, Our Brother, Our Cousin, Our Friend, Our Father, Our Husband, Our Grandfather, Our Spiritual Advisor, Our Leader, Our War Chief, Our Buffalo Dreamer with Bear Medicine, Our Head Eagle from the Wahukiza Luta Okolakiceye, Wopila. For all you taught us, Toksa Ake Inyan Tatanka, Victorio Carter Augustus Camp, until we meet again, Fly High and HokeHey!
Victorio was a true warrior and leader, he left behind with each of us who came across him a piece of him. It's time for us to put those pieces together now we have what it takes to remember the love, strength, songs, and words of wisdom. He left with us all we need to face what is coming ahead, hokahey, be brave!
On November 4, 2025, Victorio's spirit horse came to take him home to the happy hunting grounds where he will be celebrating and welcomed by many great relatives who travelled before him, he is home in the stars with our people, Hau Hecetuyelo.

Dwain Camp /ShongaSka

November 14, 2025

Victorious was well loved by his Oklahoma Ponca family as well as his South Dakota Lakota family. I just read his obituary and am very thankful for the beautiful expression.
As his father Carter Augustus Camp's oldest brother ShongaSka or Dwain Camp I want to say words on behalf of his Ponca family to his mother Michelle, his children and loved ones; we loved Victorio. He will live in our hearts as the good man he truly was. Our prayers and blessing s to all in the great circle that made up his life.
I remain. his loving uncle ShongaSka, Dwain "Buck" Camp
