Viktor "Vitalik" Voloboi passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 5th, 2025 in his home in Ashby, Massachusetts while playing the piano. His kindness, intelligence, and humility will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Viktor was born in Povlohrad, Ukraine to Valentyna and Ivan Voloboi on June 11, 1972 and lived 53 happy years. From a young age, he possessed an innate curiosity for understanding the world around him, building telescopes, and conducting chemistry experiments in his childhood bedroom. He had an insatiable hunger for knowledge and a love for natural sciences that followed him through his life.

After school Viktor attended Dnipro National University, where he got his masters degree in theoretical physics and started his career as a software engineer. It was there that he met his wife and best friend, Maryna Voloboi, whom he married in 1995. He deeply cherished the time he spent backpacking the Crimean Mountains of Ukraine with his friends and family.

Viktor immigrated to the United States with his wife, son, and daughter in 2010. His professional career spanned work at AMC Bridge, Microsoft, OnShape and Oracle, where he reached the principal engineer level.

Out of his many hobbies, aikido was his greatest passion. Through countless hours of practice in the New England Aikikai, he reached the black belt Shodan level. He will be remembered for his commitment to his students, driving to Cambridge at 5 AM twice a week.

He was a lifelong learner. This manifested in his interest in travel, musical instruments, books, and his Duolingo streak. He dreamt of traveling the country in an RV, sailing the Great Loop, and embarking on a transcontinental voyage. He even dreamt of flying a spaceship.

Viktor is survived by his wife of 30 years, Maryna Voloboi; son and daughter-in-law, Kostya and Kathryn Voloboi; daughter, Sonya Voloboi; mother, Valentyna Voloboi; brother, Dmytro Voloboy; niece, Natasha Voloboy as well as many other family and friends.

He is deeply loved by all – a heart of gold, an angel.

A memorial service will take place from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 13th at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford.
