John Hervey Gelinas, age 78, a longtime resident of Westford, passed away peacefully at the Westford House on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Donna G. (Ducharme) Gelinas with whom he enjoyed 60 years of marriage.

He was born in Lowell on November 18, 1946, and was the son of the late Hervey J. and Angeline (Boisvert) Gelinas.

John was raised in Westford and attended Westford Academy. He was an incredibly hard-working man who started at Modern Floor Service in his late teens. By the late 90's he was able to start and manage his own business, J.G. Cleaning Service. His customers would rave about how impeccable his window cleaning abilities were. In 2000 he became a school custodian in Lowell and eventually retired in 2017 from his custodian position at Nabnasset Elementary School in Westford. John was an avid Horseshoe player and a member of NHPA. He and his wife often traveled throughout New England to compete in tournaments. He loved working in his yard, whether maintaining his lawn or attending to his many perennial plants. He was a life member of the Chelmsford-Lowell Elks 2310 and also the Franco-American Club in Westford. His greatest joy in life was watching his two grandchildren grow up and spending countless hours with them. From vacations at Hampton Beach, trips to McDonalds, shopping for Barbies and football cards, to cheering them on at sporting events. He did it all with them and he will be forever missed.

In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by his daughter Cheryl A. Faulkenham of Chelmsford; his grandchildren Amanda and Jacob Faulkenham; his sisters-in law and their husbands, Judy and Leonard Sousa, and Cindy and James Buckingham; his brothers-in-law and their wives, Ronnie and MaryEllen Ducharme, Jay and Tina Ducharme and his brothers-in-law Donnie Ducharme and Gerry Scott. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Sadly, he was predeceased by his son Richard J. Gelinas and his son-in-law David Faulkenham; his sisters-in-law Cheryl Ducharme and Paula J. Scott; his brothers-in-law William P. Ducharme and Robert C. Smith and all his siblings Raymond Gelinas, Clement Gelinas, Doris Estright, Pauline Pintal, Roger Gelinas and Claude Gelinas.
