With heavy hearts yet celebrating a life lived with immense joy and generosity, we announce the passing of Viliami Vaenuku, who left this world at 4:30 am on Monday, October 6, 2025, in his home, with his loving wife, Nancy, by his side. Viliami was born on January 25, 1964, in Tonga.
Viliami's life was a testament to the power of laughter and love. His infectious laugh was a beam of light at all the family parties, cookouts or BBQs, drawing smiles from everyone who heard it. A true family man, Viliami cherished moments spent with his beloved wife, Nancy (Ackley) Vaenuku. He was a proud father to his son, Viliami Vaenuku, and his daughter, Ane Strayhorn. The delight of seven grandchildren graced his life, and their grandfather's humor and heart will be a legacy that continues to bloom in their lives.
Though Viliami was predeceased by his mother, Ane Vaenuku, and his 13 brothers and sisters, the family values they shared remained a cornerstone of his life. His work as a press operator at Welch Packaging was not just a job but a passion, where he approached each day with dedication and a readiness to uplift his colleagues.
Viliami's zest for life extended beyond his work and family. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, loyally supporting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Green Bay Packers, and his spirit and fervor for his teams were unmatched. In his leisure, he found solace in the quiet patience of fishing and the friendly competition of bowling. Camping trips were memorable, with stories told around the fire and the laughter echoing under the stars.
A man with a heart as wide as the ocean, Viliami never hesitated to put others before himself. Generosity was his nature; he was the kind of man who would indeed give the shirt off his back for anyone he loved. This selfless spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to visit and share stories and memories of Viliami from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel, located at 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend, IN 46615. Following this time of remembrance, a procession will escort Viliami to Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, where he will be laid to rest. To express condolences and to share in this tribute to a man who touched so many lives, please visit www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
Viliami Vaenuku's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, laughter, and the joy of simple pleasures. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those he leaves behind, but the memories he created remain a comforting embrace. As we bid farewell to this remarkable soul, we carry forward the light of his spirit in all that we do.
