Vincent Carmen D'Ambrosio of Oswego, born August 12, 1938, passed on August 15, 2025, at the Oswego Hospital surrounded by family. He was the son of Nicolina (Fagnani) and Salvatore D'Ambrosia.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 52 years, Joan Elaine (Fowler) D'Ambrosio, his sister Barbara (D'Ambrosia) Sencen, and sister-in-law Barbara Irwin.
He is survived by his daughters Laurel (Don) Artz of Oswego and Patricia (Karl) Keydel of Scottsville, NY, and by his son David D'Ambrosio of Oswego; by his grandchildren Anthony (Kelly) Artz, Gregory Keydel, Stephanie DiGennaro, David (Lydia) Artz, Andrew (Sarah) Keydel, and Kaitlyn Keydel; and by his great-grandchildren Vivianna DiGennaro, Madeleine and Emilia Artz, and Charlotte Lamere. He is also survived by his brothers Donald (Sharon) D'Ambrosia and Salvatore (Mickey) D'Ambrosia, and several nieces and nephews.
Vincent graduated from Tuckahoe High School and then was the first in his family to attend college. He was a member of the Beta Tau Epsilon fraternity during his college years. He graduated from SUNY Oswego with a BS in Industrial Arts in 1960, taught Industrial Arts at Red Creek Central Schools, and then earned his PhD at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH in 1969.
In 1969 he began teaching at SUNY Oswego in what would become the Department of Technology, and served on many committees, including Faculty Assembly and QUEST. He served as advisor for Epsilon Pi Tau, the honor society for those in the field of Technology Education and was active in the NYS Technology Education Association, serving as historian. He retired as a full Professor after over 30 years of service to the college. He had a great interest in early American crafts and technology, and family trips were often to visit historic locations to view sawmills and printing presses in action.
In earlier years he was active in the West Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and Treasurer, as well as co-leading the BYF youth program for several years, along with his wife, Joan.
Burial will be held at the convenience of family at Fairdale Cemetery, with arrangements by Foster Funeral Home in Hannibal.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Oswego University Foundation, designated to Rice Creek Associates at SUNY Oswego's Rice Creek Field Station (oswego.edu/give-rca), or to the D'Ambrosio Family Endowed Scholarship fund that is being established for Primary and Technology Education majors at SUNY Oswego, in memory of Joan and Vincent D'Ambrosio.
