Vincent J. Gilbert Sr.

Vincent J. Gilbert Sr. was born on April 12, 1949, at Barnert Hospital Paterson, NJ. He was born to his loving parents, Deacon Elmer Gilbert Sr., and Vennie (nee Brown) Gilbert.
Vincent graduated from Public School #10, Eastside High School and R.E.T.S Technical Institute. After graduating from R.E.T.S, Vincent joined the U.S. Navy from which he was honorably discharged in 1968. Upon being discharged, Vincent became employed at Westinghouse in Newark, NJ as an electrical technician. He was introduced to the IBEW Electrician Apprentice Program by his uncle, Abraham Brown. Vincent completed the program and was employed as an electrician for that union until his retirement.
Vincent departed this life on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Vennie Gilbert, brother; Elmer Gilbert Jr., paternal grandparents; Joseph and Carrie Gilbert and maternal grandparents; Abraham and Eva Brown, aunts; Sophia Mae Rich, Rose Marie Brown, Sandra Croonquist, uncle; Abraham Brown Jr. and brother-in-law; Melvin Hansford.
Vincent is survived by his children; Darla M. Ward (Warren), Vincent Gilbert Jr., grandchildren; Brionna Lewis and Savannah Ward, siblings; Deborah Gilbert-Johnson (Reuben), Karen Gilbert-Hansford, aunts; Barbara Marsan, Ann Lois Chatman and Mary Ann (Sherry) Brown, one niece; Fanni Johnson, great nieces, Kristen Thomas, Monique Chatman, Tiffany Russel and Jade Johnson, cousins; Sunda Zafrin (Mark), Rashe Rich, Rasche Brown, Wakiem Brown, Kaliem Brown, Rahmann Brown, Dr. Ena Marsan, Eve Marsan, the mother of his children; Debra Lewis, and a host of other relatives and friends.
