Dale Vincent Harshman, 72, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Heather Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Harvey, IL.
He was born, on July 30, 1953, in DeKalb, IL, to Dale L. Harshman and Margaret (Templeton) Harshman McEvoy. He was an adventurous child, who at the age of 3 and 4, walked unaccompanied 15 blocks to downtown where "corn candy" was sold. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to Dixon, and he attended Washington and Dixon High Schools. He was active in Boy Scouts, wrestling, and cross country. Vincent attended S.I.U./Carbondale where he left dorm life to camp in the adjoining timber until he was informed that there was no camping in the Shawnee National Forest.
He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and Northwestern Steel and Wire. He survived a flash flood on his way to work in the Louisiana oilfields. Adventure called again when he packed duffle bags, bicycling from Sterling, IL, to Minneapolis, MN, where he lived several years, until illness confined Vincent to treatment centers the remainder of his life.
Vincent is survived by his brother, William (Donna) Harshman of Dixon; sisters, Joyce (Bill) Cruse of Dixon, Helen (Bill) Edwards of White Hall, IL; brother-in-law, David Simone; cherished nieces and nephews, Christine Bonomo, Dawn Figueroa, Chad Harshman, Elizabeth Accardi, Carla Cruse-Pauser, Nancy Edwards, Billi Carson, William B. Edwards, Natalie Edwards; and special friend, Mark Jordan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathy Simone; and nephews, Andrew and Martin Edwards, and Ben Simone.
Cremation Rites have been accorded. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, IL.
Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Dixon.
