Vincent Paul Murray died on November 25th, 2022, at the age of 71, surrounded by family and loved ones. Vincent spent a lifetime building relationships. His piercing blue eyes, dapper style and kind heart will leave an enduring legacy with everyone he touched.

Vincent was born in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, NY to parents Rita and Matthew Murray, as the youngest of his five siblings, Dr. Thomas Murray, Rita (Dennis) Meyer, Matthew (Hazel) Murray, Peter (Abigail) Murray, and Christopher (Carlotta) Murray. His early education was at St. Gabriel's School in Riverdale before attending Loyola High School in Manhattan, where he competed in track and basketball. Vincent received a B.A. in Business from Georgetown University in 1973. Following graduation, he returned to New York taking a job with Manufacturers Hanover, before entering the Salomon Brothers training program where he was hired as a bond trader in 1977, commencing his 44-year career on Wall Street. He loved the business but, even more, he loved the people.

Vincent's passions were his family, horses and the New York Giants. A devoted Giants fan from childhood, he was a season ticket holder since they moved from Yankee Stadium. Vincent's love for horseracing was as a spectator, dedicated owner and breeder. By age 14 he was working at the New York racetracks as a hot walker and warmup rider in the mornings, and parking cars for his father's Olympic Parking in the afternoons. As a fan, he attended 36 of the 39 Breeders Cup Championships and could be found every August at the place he called "heaven", Saratoga Racetrack. With his brother, Dr. Thomas Murray, Vincent bred and raced horses, including Montauk Stakes winner, Here Comes Rita.

Vincent is survived by his life partner, Mary Jo Fitzpatrick (affectionately known as Jody), his children Vincent (Tricia) Murray, Michael (Caitlin) Murray, and Rita (Jared) GeBauer, his grandchildren, Caroline, Robert, Calum, Faye, and Luke, the mother of his children, Rita Gardner Murray, and his life partner's children, Kelly (Chad) Fitzgerald, Alissa Fitzpatrick, and Laura (Rob) Cranford along with Jody's four grandchildren and Vincent's many beloved nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10am Friday, December 2nd at St. Vincent Ferrer (869 Lexington Ave. New York, NY 10065). In lieu of flowers Vincent's family has requested donations be made to Lenox Hill Hospital (support of Varinder Singh, MD Cardiovascular Care) or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

I was a bartender at Saratoga Race Course for 18 years and had the pleasure of serving Vince. I will always remember him as a well-dressed gentleman who had some great stories about Old Saratoga to share with this Old Spa veteran. So sorry to see him go.

Dear Jody, Vincent, Michael, Rita and all other family

I know I haven´t seen you in a few years but I wanted to send my thoughts given how much I treasured Vinny´s friendship and support over the years.

When I started working at ABN AMRO Vinny was this legendary colleague who seemed to epitomise everything incredible about Wall Street. He used to call the desk every morning at 6am ET (mainly to speak to Sarah) always wanting to get an update of how European markets had opened before he had his shower and went into the office. He would happily speak to any of us junior colleagues and valued our input unlike so many others. On the occasions he came to London in one of his pinstripe suits, typically crisp blue shirt with white collar and suspenders, the office would just watch in awe as he held court with whoever he spoke to. He was Wall Street. His stories were frequently about people we only read about in the newspapers but whom he actually knew personally. Yet never ever was his intention to impress, just to impart his experience in the most modest of ways in order to make us feel like we were all part of his incredible world.

When I moved to NYC in 2008 he often used to invite me to a Giants game. The game would start early with us meeting at the Port Authority to take the bus to the stadium (several Amstels) before introducing me to his friends at the tailgating (more Amstels and bizarre deep fried food I´d never dreamed of) before joining him, Vincent and Michael and his many friends in these incredible seats on the halfway line. We weren´t even colleagues anymore but Vinny treated me like I was family.

In my 3 years in NYC I couldn´t walk near Central Park South without checking if Vinny might be reading the Post in PJ Carneys. Indeed one time I saw him in there, popped in and an hour later was drinking with the owner of the Knicks or the Jets. Probably both. He knew everybody. He´d worked with Mike Bloomberg, Nancy Pelosi had been his babysitter and Stefani (Lady Gaga) was his daughter Rita´s school friend. Vincent Murray had friends in every field and would have excelled in whatever he did, his personality was magnetic.

After I moved back to London I´d still get occasional check-ins from Vinny, typically by Bloomberg message in CAPITALS followed by a phonecall and was fortunate to see him when I had the opportunity to be in NYC. He always talked about his children of whom he was so proud, Jody and of course his horses and his Giants. He always asked about our mutual friends, always interested in their news and revelling in their success. What a guy.

In recent years as his health suffered, all of us still talked about his incredible resilience and his love of the markets. He continued to make new friends and colleagues and to support and help them to develop their careers. Even new clients would remark on his incredible passion for the bond markets and the value of his knowledge and experience. His dedication to doing a great job was incredible especially given his age and his health.

I am sad that I hadn´t spoken to Vinny in many months but conscious that it wouldn´t have mattered and that had I been in NYC he´d have made the effort to come for a drink to catch up as long as he´d be home in bed by 9pm. I can´t ever think of an occasion when Vinny ever did anything for himself, it was always for someone else (well maybe apart from his trip to the Dubai World Cup). His generosity is not something commonly witnessed in the modern world.

I know I speak for dozens of us fortunate enough to have crossed paths with Vinny when I say that Vinny genuinely enriched my professional life in finance and my personal life in New York City. I can´t imagine the hole that he will leave in the lives of his close family but know how much they value the years they enjoyed with this wonderful personality.

All our love from his friends in London.

Vincent was a a very generous and real person. He loved visiting with friends, especially if you made him his favorite apple pie! His presence will be missed, but his aura will always be with all of us. We send our love and sympathy to all of the family.
