Brittney Murray Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory - Wendell on Feb. 17, 2026.
Brittney Christina Megan Tom Murray
February 24, 1987 – February 15, 2026
Brittney Christina Megan Tom Murray, 38, of Middlesex, passed away at her home on February 15, 2026. She
was born on February 24, 1987, in Cumberland County to her parents, Rick Tom and Sheryl Hood Tom.
A lifelong athlete, Brittney's love for sports began at an early age. She competed in tournament softball
throughout middle school and high school, where her talent, work ethic, and competitive spirit set her apart.
During her high school career, Brittney achieved remarkable milestones, including posting a 0.03 ERA across
an eight-game season and pitching four consecutive no-hitters, these records reflected both her dominance on
the mound and her dedication to the game.
Her athletic success earned her a dual scholarship to play both softball and volleyball at the collegiate level.
Brittney continued to excel in college athletics, competing at a high level while demonstrating leadership,
discipline, and resilience. After her playing days, she carried her passion for the sport forward by becoming a
college softball coach. Proudly known as "Coach B," she found purpose in mentoring young woman, teaching
them not only the fundamentals of the game but a love for God that was infectious.
Brittney's faith was a guiding force in her life. She was a devoted follower of the Lord, grounded in her beliefs
and committed to living them out daily. Her relationship with God shaped the way she loved others, faced
challenges, and carried herself through both joy and hardship. Even in the midst of illness, she leaned on her
faith for strength and peace, trusting in God's plan with humility and grace. Her walk with the Lord was evident
in her compassion, perseverance, and the quiet assurance with which she lived.
More than any title she carried, Brittney was most proud to be a mother. Her children were her heart, and she
loved them fiercely and without reservation. She was known for her honesty and directness, never afraid to
speak her mind and always standing firmly in her truth which are qualities that defined her strong, genuine, and
authentic nature.
In recent years, Brittney faced significant health challenges while battling lupus and diabetes. True to her
character, she met these challenges with strength, resilience, and determination.
Brittney is survived by her parents, Rick and Sheryl Tom; her loving husband, Eric Murray; her sons, Bryson
Murray and Conner Murray; her daughter, Bristol Murray; her niece, Ava Murray; her brothers, Buddy
(Cheriee) Tom and Joey Murray; her sister, Jennifer Singh; and her father-in-law, Allen Murray.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday 2 P.M. at Midpoint Church (5407 NC 231 Middlesex, NC 27557)
