VINCENT �FRED� SILVESTER, age 68 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life to go home to be with his Heavenly Father, Monday afternoon, November 2, 2009 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV.
He was born Friday, October 3, 1941 at Coalton, WV the youngest child of the late Romeo Silvester and Marie DiBacco Silvester. On December 30, 1961 at Coalton, WV he married his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Helen R. �Midge� DeMotto Silvester, who survives. Also surviving are his three loving children who he adored and lived for, Vincent A. �Andy� Silvester and wife Ann, Elkins; Susanne S. Ogden and husband Jeff, Elkins; James C. �JC� Silvester and wife Bridget, Wilmington, NC; and two loving grandsons, who were his pride and joy and �little buddies�, Matthew D. �Matt� Odgen and Clinton T. �Clint� Ogden, both of Elkins; three brothers, John �Johnny� Silvester and wife Esther, Coalton; Joseph Silvester and wife Idia, Elkins; Anthony F. Silvester and wife Jean �Jeanie�, Norton; three sisters, Mary �Tootsie� Ferruso, Clarksburg; Pauline Johnson, Elkins; Magdeline �Maggie� DeMotto and husband L. Hugh, Red Creek; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who he loved.
Preceding him in death are one infant brother, Carman; four sisters, Helen R. �Dolly� Silvester; Elizabeth Ann �Bay� Silvester May and two infants, Veronica and Anita and two brothers in law, John Ferruso and John B. Johnson.
He was a graduate of Coalton High School with the Class of 1959, where he was a member of the Basketball Team. He was a graduate of the Huntington Barber School and was a well known barber at the Modern Barber Shop at Elkins, which he owned and operated for eleven years. He later worked for the LaRosa Fuel Company, the Island Creek Coal Company and the West Virginia Department of Highways, where he retired due to illness after twenty-five years of service as a safety officer. He was one of the first members of the Coalton Volunteer Fire Department, was a member of the Elkins Lodge # 1135, BPOE and along with his brother, Anthony coached Little League Baseball. Above anything else, he loved the Lord first, and then treasured his time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his sons and grandson and he loved to build homes as a hobby. He was a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday. On Thursday, at 7 PM, at the funeral home a prayer service will be recited by the Very Reverend Donald X. Higgs, VF. On Friday morning, November 6, 2009, Mr. Silvester will be moved to the Saint Brendan Catholic Church where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. The Very Reverend Donald X. Higgs, VF will be the Presider and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to St. Jude Children�s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
