Viola Aguilar Arreguin passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born in Anna Rose, Texas, on September 17, 1938, to her parents, Guadalupe and Sabas Aguilar. Viola was a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Viola always welcomed everybody into her house with love and generosity, and there was always room for anyone who needed a place to stay no matter how big or small her house was. Viola was raised with old-fashioned values of respect, discipline, and hard work. She would walk more than a mile to and from school and then when she got home, she would continue with her household chores. She graduated from William Adams High School in 1958 and instilled in her children the importance of an education.
Viola was a jack of all trades, from picking cotton at a very young age, to working at P&S Hospital, and to sewing up clothes at Haggar Clothing Manufacturing Company. Her favorite was being a Tupperware Company Dealer and Sales Manager where she was awarded and recognized as Top Seller and Outstanding Manager. Viola was also known as a creative outstanding cook for making the best homemade tortillas, puff tacos, pan de levadura, and tamales and she was also recognized for making the most delicious award-winning Menudo in the South Texas surrounding cook-off competitions.
Viola's zest for life was contagious, she loved to dance and sing, and family unity was very important to her. She moved to Sparta, Michigan in 1989, where she resided to this date to be close to her son, sister, and extended family. Viola would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. She was always very attentive to the needs of her family and friends, no matter the sacrifice.
Viola is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Sabas Aguilar; brothers, Alfredo Aguilar, Erasmo Aguilar; sister, Lorenza "Chacha" Hatch; son-in-law, Juan Estrada; brothers-in-law Durwood Hatch and Henry Uribe Sr; sisters-in-laws, Delma Aguilar, Dalia Aguilar, and Alma Aguilar; and nephews, Erasmo Aguilar and Bruni Aguilar.
Her memories will be cherished by her son, Roman (Becky) Aguilar; daughter, Lucinda "Lucy" Estrada; her sisters, Georgia Anna Uribe, Maria Guadalupe "Lupita" (Gabriel) Estrada, and Emma (Deacon Armando) Botello; grandson, Roman (Morgan Diane) Aguilar; granddaughters, Heidi (Donnie) Angelini, and Cindy (Kyle) Lowry; great-grandchildren, Hudson, Alexandra, Owen, Abigail, Conner; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Viola's family will have memorial visitation on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Treviño Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St., from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church followed by Rite of Committal and Inurnment at New Collins Cemetery.
