LINNEUS - Surrounded by her family, Viola Isabel (Nason) Byron went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Viola was born in Houlton, Maine, on July 12, 1944, to Cecil and Evelyn (Carmichael) Nason. Vi attended elementary school in Linneus and Connecticut and graduated from high school at Ricker Classical Institute in 1962. The following week, she began working in the bookkeeping department at The Aroostook Hospital and remained there until the birth of her first child. From that point, she poured decades of her life into raising her family and keeping books for the family's logging business. Viola dedicated many hours to her church and served God in many ways by teaching Sunday School and VBS, playing the piano each week for services, singing, and acting as treasurer for the church for decades.
Viola was known for being a fantastic cook. Whenever there was a need in the community (whether fire, sickness, or death), she was going to be found in her kitchen preparing a large meal to help out. She served countless meals to her family (both immediate and extended) and friends over the years. She was the epitome of hospitality - always quick to invite someone in. Viola also had a passion for her vegetable and flower gardens and her lawn. In the summer, she could often be found working in those areas. She took excellent care of her family and home and always put others before herself.
Viola is survived by her husband, Larry, of Linneus; her son, Neal, and his wife, Sharon, of Hereford, AZ; her daughter, Kimberly Bursey, and her husband, Mark, of Bucksport; her two beloved granddaughters, Madelyn Boye and her husband, Anthony, of Ellsworth, and Emma Bursey of Bucksport. Other close family members include Jane & Larry Ross of Hodgdon, Wayne & Sandra McGary of Linneus, Freda Byron Casey of Linneus, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves behind her close friends, Lana & Gene McGuire of Linneus. Viola was predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Evelyn Nason of Linneus; her brother, Robert Nason of Linneus; and her son, Keven Byron of Kenduskeag.
The family would like to thank Dr. Olabiye and his office for their care over the past few years and also Madigan Estates and Hospice for their excellent care and attention for the last 17 days of her life.
Friends and family may call at the Linneus Free Will Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 13, from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm.
