Viola Kist Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Frederick Funeral Home on Jan. 9, 2024.
Viola (nee Rack) Kist, beloved wife of the late Oscar "Buck" A. Kist. Devoted mother of Debbie Masters, Jane (Dr. Ron) Routh, the late Walter (Nancy) Kist and the late David Kist. Loving grandmother of Christina Beavan, Amanda (Robert) Bowling, Molly (Kevin) Tatum, Mallory Kist, Kevin Masters, Justin Masters, Tim Routh, Ben Routh, Nick Routh, Jaron Routh, Hannah Routh, Anitra (Nathan) Chadwick and Natasha (Thomas) LaRue. Great grandmother of 16 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Betty (Mel) Fischesser. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Frank and Bertha Rack, her longtime friend Ray Kist and her eight siblings: Frank (Irene) Rack, Louis (Ruth) Rack, Loretta (Ed "Bud") Zillig, Charles "Ben" Rack, Bertha (Jack) Leonard, Edna Rack, Earl (Barb) Rack and Walter Rack.
Viola was a cherished member of her community, and her absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her. Viola was a woman of simple pleasures and found joy in the everyday moments of life. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden, where she spent countless hours tending to her flowers and plants. She appreciated the beauty of nature and delighted in birdwatching, observing the feathered visitors that frequented her backyard. Viola's baking skills were renowned, and we eagerly awaited her delicious homegrown- homemade baked goods such as strawberry cream pie, zucchini and date-nut brown breads. Her talents extended to preserving the harvest by canning food; ensuring the flavors of summer could be enjoyed throughout the year.
Faith played a significant role in Viola's life, and she was a devout Catholic. She was the oldest living parishioner at Little Flower Church, where she actively participated in the Altar Society. Viola's unwavering commitment to her faith was an inspiration to others and brought her solace and strength throughout her life.
Beyond her devotion to her family and church, Viola also dedicated her time to the community. She volunteered generously at the Mt. Airy Civics Club and the Mt. Airy Garden Club, giving back to the place she called home. Her selflessness and kind spirit touched the lives of many, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion and service. Viola will be forever remembered for her warmth, love, and selflessness. Viola peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the age of 93. Visitation at Frederick Funeral Home, 2553 Banning Rd. on Thursday (Jan 11) from 8:30am-10:30am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Little Flower Church at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Mercy McAuley High School, 6000 Oakwood Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45224 or a charity of your choice. Special condolences may be expressed at frederickfh.com
