Violet was born March 16, 1933, the sixth child of William Henry and Carrie Eliza (Lucy) Nelms, at Pike City, Ark. She passed away Thursday, July 31st, 2025.
She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Winifred Berl; three brothers, Estil Daye, William Henry, Jr. and Dewey Franklin Nelms, and her sister, Verna Lee Reed.
Surviving are two children: Toni Suzanne and Lindsey Randall Potts of Texas; one sister, Jane J. Carter of Oklahoma City, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She began school in Delight, Arkansas until they moved to Shinewell, Ok., where she attended fourth through sixth grade. She graduated from Horatio High School in Arkansas in 1951, then moved to Snyder, Texas to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, where she met her husband who had just returned from the United States Marine Corp.
After living in Big Spring, Kermit, Monahans, Houston and Dallas when her husband was employed by U S Steel, Oilwell Division, they retired to Hot Springs Village in 1995.
In 1996, she volunteered to work at the Village Voice newspaper on the second day Mr. and Mrs. Ken Richardson took over since she knew how busy they would be. The next day Mr. Richardson called her and offered her a job. She worked as a special features writer for the next six years. Violet’s hobby was genealogy and she was a member of the local genealogy club.
She has been a member of Village Bible Church since 1995.
