Violet Bluemer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors - Midland Chapel on Jan. 24, 2026.
Violet Florine Bluemer, of Midland, passed away on January 20, 2026, at the age of 94.

Violet was born on September 14, 1931, in Quapaw, Oklahoma, one of eleven children of Homer Barnett and Hazel (Smith) Barnett. She met Marvin Bluemer in September of 1950, and the two were married just 4 months later on January 29, 1951. Together they built a wonderful life, sharing 52 years before his passing in 2003.

Vi and Marv were very active members of the Midland community. They owned and operated Country Grocery, Country Hardware, and M-30 Storage, which is now owned by their son, Jim. Most importantly, Vi was a devoted wife and mother to her three children. You could most likely find her in her garden beds tending to her flowers or in the kitchen baking delicious treats she loved to share. Being a very shy woman, Vi recruited her children to deliver her baked goods to businesses and neighbors. One Christmas, she baked over 100 dozen cookies to share! She crocheted countless afghans for family, friends, and charities. Whatever she had to give, she would give it wholeheartedly, without expecting anything in return. She had a thirst for knowledge and enjoyed doing her research and sharing her findings with her children. Her family was always amazed at how quickly she would whip up a portrait drawing of someone. Though she never thought much of it, her children grew to cherish her art.

Violet is survived by her three children, Sue (Ben) Phillips, Lori (Patrick) Mealey, and Jim Bluemer Sr.; grandchildren, Angela (Jayson) Stough, Emily Phillips, and James (Heather) Bluemer Jr.; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Lane, Reese, Dawson, and Marissa; siblings, Don (Donna) Barnett, June (Wayne) Armstrong, Helen (Orv) Simpson, Tula Visnaw, and Mae Wetherbee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Bluemer; parents, Homer and Hazel Barnett; and brothers-in-law, Harvey Visnaw and Tom Wetherbee.

Honoring Vi's wishes, a private service will be held. She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw, Michigan.

Donations can be made to the Chippewa Nature Center, in honor of Violet.
