Violet Mae (Whalen) McCord, 90, of
Millersburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on the early morning of September 12th, 2025.
Born on January 26, 1935, to the late Earl and Flossie (Fisher) Whalen, Violet grew up in Millersburg alongside her seven siblings: three brothers and four sisters. Violet spent nearly her entire life in Millersburg.
She married the late Bobby McCord Sr., and together they raised two children: Bobby Jr. (Kim) McCord and Luvena (Pat) Motley, who were her pride and joy. But some of Violet's greatest joy came from her role as "Mamaw" to her three granddaughters: Elizabeth, Hope (Tyler), Hannah (Chris), and the anticipation of her unborn great-granddaughter, who she was so excited for.
Violet's life was centered around caring for others. She spent many years babysitting local children, who grew up carrying fond memories of her love and watchful eye. Later, she became well known for her cooking in the kitchen at MMI, where cadets never forgot her meals, or her warmth. Even years later, when they saw her around, they'd still ask, "Hey Violet, what's for supper?" Following her "retirement", Violet spent many days babysitting her granddaughters, doing mostly anything they asked of her, and caring for her family.
She had a smile that would often light up a room and a personality that made her unforgettable. Those who knew her best will remember her as equal parts sweet and sassy - the perfect balance of warmth, humor, and honesty. She loved her trips to Tennessee, getting her hair and nails done, wearing her trademark bright lipstick, watching Young and the Restless and Westerns, and dancing. She also had a sharp eye and a love of keeping up with the latest neighborhood news, often from her favorite vantage point at the window.
Violet is survived by her children, granddaughters, sister Alice (Hugh) Jordan, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will all miss her immensely.
Her life will be celebrated in Millersburg at the M.E. Pruitt Funeral Home with Visitation on Monday, September 15th, 2025, from 5pm-8pm and her Funeral on Tuesday, September 16th, 2025, at 11:00am. The service will be led by Charlotte Tincher. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Chris Dove, Tyler Scott, Brandon Hollar, Donald Hollar, Marion Kash Hunter, and Sebastian Pursiful. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buddy Mynear, Van Stone, and the Millersburg American Legion Members and the Women's Auxiliary.
The family wishes to thank all who made Violet feel loved and cherished, especially Hospice of the Bluegrass, who ensured her comfort and dignity until the very end.
