Virgie Lee Macha, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on March 23, 2025, at the blessed age of 98. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on April 11, 1926, she made her home in Port Neches, where she created a life filled with love, hard work, and adventure.

A proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Virgie went on to attend Port Arthur College before starting her career in clerical work. But her greatest work began when she married the love of her life, Charlie Macha. Together, they built a beautiful family and a successful life, raising eight children while running a variety of businesses, including fast food restaurants, a service station, and a package store. She was more than just a supportive wife—she was Charlie’s full partner, working tirelessly to help their businesses thrive.

After retiring, Virgie and Charlie embarked on their greatest adventure yet—life on the road. Traveling across the country in their 5th-wheel RV, they explored the beauty of America, making friends wherever they went. Branson, Missouri, became a cherished destination, where they spent years creating memories with their dear friends at Treasure Lake RV Park.

Virgie had a deep appreciation for creativity and community. A talented painter, she found joy in capturing the world’s beauty on canvas. She was also an avid crocheter, using her skills to bring warmth and comfort to others. For over 20 years, she lovingly crocheted baby hats and donated them to the hospital, ensuring that newborns were welcomed into the world with something handmade and full of love. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a lifelong, devoted member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, she was also a member of the Altar Society and Ladies Guild.

She knew how to have fun and was always ready for a competitive game of Upwards. She was an active participant of the Port Neches Senior Citizens Center and a Thursday game group. She loved to dance and was a proud member of the “Belles and Beaus” line dancing group, bringing energy and laughter to every performance.

Virgie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Charlie; her parents, Alvin Paul and Mae Flossie Gentil; and her sisters, Betty Mae Breaux and Dorothy Ann Barrilleaux.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family in her eight children: David (Esther) Macha of Galveston, Carol (Ted) Holmlund of Georgetown, Alice (Ronnie) Hartman of Bryan, Dennis (Laura) Macha of Hemphill, Darrel Macha of Zavala, Marsha Macha Daigle of Leander, Mary Lynn Macha of Tyler, and Sandy (Buddy) Morgan of Tiki Island. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Claude Paul Gentil (Janie) of Lakeway, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Virgie’s life was one well-lived—full of adventure, laughter, faith, and an abundance of love. While she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched.
