Mr. Virgil Ray “Virg” Albrecht, age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Virgil was born on August 8, 1935, in Pigeon, Michigan, the son of Herbert Sr. & Katie Albrecht (Swartzendruber). He was raised alongside his four siblings and graduated from Pigeon High School. He met the love of his life Martha Joan Schrock at the Fairview Bible school; the two dated, fell in love, and were wed on September 30, 1956. They moved to Vassar in 1965 where they raised their children, shared countless memories, and celebrated over 68 years of marriage. Before retirement, Virgil owned and operated his own poultry farm. In 1992 he converted his farm into a mini-storage company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, and golfing. He also was an avid player of fast-pitch softball, and he pitched for many years on local teams. In 2018, he and Martha moved to Three Rivers, Michigan, to be closer to family. He and Martha enjoyed wintering in Sarasota, Florida, and loved being grandparents to their grandchildren. Above all, Virg loved his family and will be deeply missed.
He is forever loved by his wife, Mrs. Martha Albrecht; children: Dennis (Brenda) Albrecht, Darl (Lonna) Albrecht, and Karen (Conrad) Miller; grandchildren: Cara, Tyler, Dustin, Spencer, Kaitlyn, Seth, Reid, Ethan, and Tiffany; six great-grandsons; eleven great-granddaughters; sister, Carol (Arnold) Miller; brother, Herb (Dorothy) Albrecht; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Virg was preceded in death by his son, Dean Albrecht; grandson, Jesse Albrecht; parents, Herbert Sr. & Katie Albrecht; brother, Duane Albrecht; and sister, Bernice Maust.
Funeral services for Virgil will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Pineview Mennonite Church, Vassar; visitation at church will begin at 1:00 p.m. and last until the time of service.
