Virgil Broadwater Obituary

Visit the Bollman's Tribute Center website to view the full obituary.
Virgil was born the youngest child of Arthur and Bertha (Culler) Broadwater in Turkey Ford, Oklahoma. When he was five the family moved to Amity, Oregon where he lived until joining the Army in 1950. He spent most of his time in the Army training for and eventually going to Korea where he spent nine months on the front line. After his time in the Army was finished he rejoined his family who had since moved to Roseburg, Oregon.

Virgil found employment at the plywood mill there. He went to a nearby church where he met his future wife, Sally. They were married on July 2, 1955. After Sally graduated from high school, Virgil took his wife and new son to Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, Oregon where he received his education to become a land surveyor, taking the test to get his license in 1965 to become a Licensed Land Surveyor. After graduating from college Virgil started working for the Oregon Department of Transportation, helping design and build highways. His family was moved numerous times by ODOT, finally settling in Salem, Oregon until retiring in 1993 after working for ODOT 35 years.

After retirement Virgil and Sally travelled in their motorhome, researching their combined genealogy. They made their final move to Dallas, Oregon in 1999 continuing their RV travels. In February 2016 Virgil and Sally traveled to Korea with members of the 40th Infantry Korean War Veterans to visit schools the brigade had helped pay for and support.

Virgil is survived by his wife Sally, son Richard (Dawn) and daughters Debra (Jim) and Dawn (Jerry, deceased), granddaughters Megan and Krystal and great grandchildren Taylor, Aiden, Raina and Finley. A big shout out and Thank You to the Staff at Jefferson Manor Lodge Memory Care facility for his care in his final months.

A funeral service will be held at Bollman's Tribute Center, on Thursday, November 13th at 11am.
