Virgil Fields, age 97 of Lancaster passed into Jesus loving arms on September 26th, 2025 at Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and looked forward to being greeted in heaven by his loving wife Ava (Cogdill) Fields.
Virgil was born on May 18, 1928, in Harlan County Kentucky to Slaney and Nora (Bays) Fields. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sisters, May Fields, Sallie Fields, Carrie Calder, Bessie Walters, Lorene Shook and Darlene Hiatt and brothers Cleston, Burt, Bill and Jim Fields.
He is survived by his six children, Margarett Fields (Robert Lee), Robert Fields (Deborah), Debra Fields (Brian Barnes), Linda Anderson (Rick), Darrell Fields (Annitta) and Christine Fields. He was the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren and many great and great, great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family and the many friends he cherished.
He worshiped and practiced his lifelong Christian faith at Crossroads United Baptist Church in Groveport. He read his Bible regularly and knew it well. It is beautifully tattered and worn from his constant use. He shared his faith with family and friends through love, actions and words. He will be remembered for his generosity and love of family and friends.
Virgil worked many jobs in his lifetime including coal mining and glass making at Owens-Illinois in Columbus. He retired from Owens-Illinois to work on his farm outside Lancaster, Ohio. He could grow anything and always had an amazing garden.
We will all miss him and cherish the memories we have.
