Virgil Harris Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pitts Chapel on Mar. 31, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virgil "Papaw" Truman Harris, who left us on March 30, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on October 27, 1947, in Rimby, MO, to Ray Edward and Neva Ann (Thorp) Harris. He was united in marriage to Darcus Scurlock October 30, 1970, and was saved when he was in his 20's at Berean Baptist Church.
Virgil spent his life in the service of others, working as a foreman for the Bolivar City Streets Department. His wisdom and experience far exceeded those of the classroom walls, teaching many about hard work and dedication.
Virgil enjoyed racing stock cars on dirt tracks throughout the area. He loved his grandkids!
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; and seven brothers and sisters.
Virgil is survived by his beloved wife, Darcas Harris; his two cherished daughters, Tammy Harris and Lisa Barber (Lyle); four grandchildren: Breanna Piper (Ezra), Mariah Kirksey (Evan), Tyler Harris, and Trenton Barber; four great grandchildren: Walter, Margaret, Milo, and Talon; a sister Dorothy Lockhart-Campbell; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was a proud family man who dedicated his life to supporting those he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate Virgil's life. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 3, 2026, at the Pitts Chapel. Burial will follow at Star Ridge Cemetery, located on Hwy 64 in Rimby, MO. We invite all who knew Virgil to join us in honoring his legacy and the impact he had on our lives. Online condolences may be made at: www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel Bolivar, MO.
Virgil will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever be a guiding light in our lives.
