Virginia Julie Almquist

Virginia Julie Almquist passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, in Salida at the age of 71.

Virginia was born on April 12, 1954, in Tucson to Miguel and Estella Romo. She grew up in Patterson, CA until she moved to Modesto/Salida in her 30's, building a life centered on love, family, and friendship.

Virginia had a vibrant spirit and a deep appreciation for life's simple joys. She loved to travel and explore new places, found peace and pride in tending to her garden, and never passed up an opportunity to dance. She enjoyed relaxing with a nice glass of wine and had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved fur babies, Bella and Princess.

Above all else, Virginia cherished her family. She loved bringing everyone together for holidays, celebrations, and casual gatherings, creating memories filled with laughter, warmth, and togetherness. Her home was always open, and her heart even more so.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 31 years, Jeffrey Almquist; her children, Melissa Zepeda and Stella Schmidt (Chay); her grandchildren, Revea Martinez, Talia Martinez (Frank Millan), Devenn Martinez (Sahara Gontiz), Loren Perciante (Kristina), and Kelly-Ray Morriston; and her great-grandchildren, Alexander Millan, Siah Martinez, Remedy Fitzpatrick and Olivia Torres. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Romo along with many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Estella Romo, her daughter, Melissa Zepeda and her siblings, Harvey Weeks, Jaime Romo, and Gloria Hernandez.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5th, beginning at 10:30 a.m., with a chapel service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakdale Tiny Paws Rescue or to an animal rescue organization of your choice, honoring Virginia's lifelong love of animals.

Virginia's warmth, laughter, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered
