Virginia L. Blackmore passed away in Bellingham, WA on October 7, 2025, at the age of 96. She was born in Fullerton, CA on December 7, 1928, to Charles and Mary (Pickenpaugh) Lownsdale. Fiber arts were her lifelong passion, having learned to knit from her blind grandmother at the age of four. Knitting remained one of her greatest passions throughout her life, and many of her original patterns were published in respected handcraft pattern books. She enjoyed sharing her skills and creativity with others, always taking pride in her work. Virginia treasured time spent with her family, whether playing games, telling stories, or simply being together. Her kindness, humor, and love for those around her left a lasting impression on everyone she knew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Blackmore, and her son, Patrick Blackmore. She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Brian) Aronson, son Edwin Blackmore, and daughter Kathryn Blackmore, grandchildren Philip, John, Sarah, Amaris, and Jason, and great-grandchildren Hannah, Hunter, Ryder, and Noah.
Virginia will be laid to rest at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Whatcom Humane Society.
