Virginia Chavero, 74, went home to be with her beloved oldest daughter, Paola Anahi. Virginia had an unwavering love for her family and a deep compassion for those who needed a voice.
Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Virginia moved with her parents and siblings to Chicago, Illinois, during her teenage years. It was there that she met Jose Luis Quintanilla, and the two were married. In 1984, Virginia and Jose Luis welcomed their first child, Paola Anahi. Despite being told that Paola would not survive infancy, she proved the doctors wrong and thrived for several years. Within the next 4 years, Virginia and Jose welcomed two more children, Estevan and Anna. Tragically, Paola passed away in 1990 due to health complications.
In 2001, the family relocated to Texas, where Virginia worked in the county clerk's office. As a passionate advocate for equality, she made history when she became the only clerk to sign marriage licenses following the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court ruling. True to her nature, Virginia stood up for what she believed in, always championing fairness and justice.
Virginia retired from the clerk's office in 2017 and enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and gardening. She is survived by her husband, Jose Luis, son, Estevan, daughter, Anna, grandson, Ian and Aiden, and siblings Juanita Rebolloso, Maria Rebolloso, Christine Chavero, Maria Viteri, Alejandro Chavero, Antonio Chavero, Alfredo Chavero and Guillermo Chavero.
