Virginia Joyce Compton, age 82, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025 in Bolingbrook, IL, with her family close by. Virginia lived a full and happy life and always said how blessed she was to be surrounded by such a loving family.

Growing up on 35th street in Chicago near McKinley Park, she had fond memories of taking her siblings to the park and would somehow always "accidentally" run into Nick on the baseball field. Virginia enjoyed the peacefulness of nature and enjoyed family trips to Arkansas, Arizona, West Point, Mount Rushmore and New York City. During the years they lived in New Jersey, she loved hosting family and taking them up and down the Jersey shore and into New York to see a Broadway show and the Statue of Liberty.

Although she loved to read and try her luck at the casino, her greatest passion was fishing. Annual trips to Burntside Lake in Ely, MN were always a highlight. She loved being on the water with Nick driving the boat. Like a true-fisherwoman, she could bait her own hook and knew exactly where to cast her line (the sunken ship and Osprey Island were two of her favorite spots). They'd fish together from sunrise to sunset, catching so many smallmouth bass that she had enough fish stories to share the rest of the year. Her fishing legacy lives on in Ely with a grateful smallmouth bass that escaped the bite of a northern pike while dangling from her hook.

Virginia is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Nick Compton; her devoted children Gary (Jill) Compton and Craig (Patty with Abbie, Abe and Madi Pedigo) Compton; her cherished grandchildren Alexander, Matthew and Tiffany Compton; her newly born great-grandchild Hunter, and her dear siblings Lou (JoAnne) Ferroli and Marge (Dick) Lane.

Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 1:00 - 5:00 pm at Anderson Memorial Home, 21131 W Renwick Rd, Plainfield, IL 60544. In lieu of flowers, the family simply asks for well-wishes and fond memories of "Ginna."
