Virginia Daring
Rutland- Virginia Mason "Ginny" Daring, 100, of Rutland, passed away on Saturday January 25, 2025 after a brief illness. She was born October 3, 1924 in Rochester, NY, the daughter of Mildred and Donald Mason. She grew up in Granville, NY, spending summers vacationing at Lake St. Catherine. She graduated from Granville High School in 1942; attended Rochester Institute of Technology and went on to graduate from Syracuse University in 1981. She married Robert "Bob" Daring June 20, 1952. Throughout their 60 years of marriage they moved six times with General Electric, along with their three children Kristin, Kevin (Mason), and Karin. They settled in New Hartford, NY for 15 years until Bob retired in 1986 when they built a house in Pawlet. Ginny was very active in the community, including the Pawlet Scholarship Committee, the Pawlet Library, and the Pawlet Food Bank. She initiated a new chapter of P.E.O; her hobbies included gardening as well as rug hooking. In 2012, after the death of her husband, she moved to The Gables in Rutland. On October 3, 2024, Ginny celebrated her 100th birthday, enjoying a party with sixty-five family members and friends at her son's home in Pawlet. Survivors include her son Kevin Mason and partner Davita Nowland of Pawlet, Marblehead MA and Savannah GA, her daughter Karin Brandewie and husband John Brandewie of Savannah GA, her brother Robert Mason and wife Sherry Mason of Elkhart IN, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Robert Daring on June 22, 2012 and her daughter Kristin Mondragon on January 19, 1986.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday March 20, 2025 at 5PM at the Pawlet Community Church, 38 VT Route 133, Pawlet, VT 05761. A private burial will be held in the springtime. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to:
