STOW - Virginia Faye Fleagle was born on April 27, 1949, on the Eastern Shore in Virginia and was the daughter of George Washington Cherrix and Virginia Frances Cherrix. She was promoted to heaven on December 17, 2025, at age 76. “Faye” graduated from Onancock High School in 1967. She played shortstop and third base for their championship softball team.
Upon graduation, her brother, William Cherrix, gave her the money to pay for her nursing program at Salisbury Peninsular Hospital. While she was there, a Nazarene pastor visited the nurses and extended an invitation to attend a Crusade at the local Nazarene Church. Faye went to the meetings and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord.
She and her roommate moved up to Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and secured nursing jobs at Carlisle Hospital. Faye had a nursing career which spanned four decades. She specialized in Geriatric Nursing and worked in hospitals, nursing homes, and as a visiting nurse. For the last fifteen years of her career, she worked with Alzheimer’s patients at Maison Aine in Stow, Ohio.
On June 3, 1972, she married Arnold R. Fleagle of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. They served as pastor and wife for fifty years and led churches in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, as well as consulting with seventy-four churches in the Central District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. Her church ministries included Sunday School Teaching, Women’s Ministries, Missions, and Fellowship Dinners. She was excellent at building relationships with congregational members and was an incalculable asset to her husband’s ministry.
Faye is survived by her husband, Rev. Dr. Arnold R. Fleagle; two sons, Matthew (Elizabeth) and Marc (Kalila) Fleagle, and four grandchildren, Avalynne, Travis, Caedmon, and Genevieve. Her family benefited from her southern hospitality, Christian example, holiday celebrations, and her model of what it meant to be an excellent Christian woman.
