Virginia Glee Gilbert, known to many as “Glee”, passed away at the age of 91 in Denver , Colorado. Born in Conway Springs, Kansas, to Amy and Maurice Sanders, Virginia led a life filled with curiosity, adventure, and dedication to others.
Glee lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Arizona throughout her life. She had a lifelong passion for education, earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education and library science. Her career in elementary school libraries spanned more than 20 years, after which she pursued diverse professional interests, including as a credit manager, real estate agent, bookstore manager, and administrative roles.
An accomplished musician, Glee played the clarinet and piano in both church and community groups, and sang in the church choir most of her life. She generously volunteered her time to church and community through music, food bank service, administrative support at Sunshine Acres Children’s Home, and many social groups.
Glee treasured her family and friends and is survived by her sister, daughter, son-in-law, nieces, grandson, bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren plus cousins and friends. She shared a special daily bond with her sister, Joan King, who called to catch-up on the day’s events and let her know she was thinking about her.
Glee was a resilient and inspiring person who faced a number of serious life challenges with strength and a positive attitude. She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her annual Super Bowl parties, a love of card games, and her ability to support those less fortunate with her time and talents.
A service to commit Glee’s ashes took place on December 9, 2025 at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church where she was an active member for almost 20 years. Her funeral service will be held January 3, 2026 at 2pm at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, CO. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Sunshine Acres Children’s Home in Mesa, AZ in Glee’s name.
