Virginia "Ginger" Rita Herring (nee Armstrong), 90, was called home to God on Sept. 15, 2025. She was born July 24, 1935 to Frances and Sumner Armstrong in Newport, Rhode Island. There she met and married the love of her life Wesley Herring while he was serving in the US Navy. They would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary October 27. Together they raised four children: Nancy, Wes, Paul and Liz in Villa Park for over 50 years. Ginger was known for her sense of humor and was a dear friend and second mother to many beloved neighbors, especially her friends of more than 50 years, the late Carrie Sams, and the late Connie Radeka and their families.

Following in her mother's footsteps, Ginger always hosted Sunday dinners and holidays where all were welcome at her table. While most of Ginger's life was devoted to caring for her family she was an active volunteer and last PTA President at Iowa School and an active volunteer at School District 45 in the seventies. She was a devoted member and friend to many at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. Ginger was a CCW member for over 45 years, taught kindergarten CCD, bingo volunteer for many years, Bereavement and Eucharistic Minister for over 20 years. She was honored to have been selected CCW Woman of the Year three separate times. She was always willing to help with gatherings and events for the church. Ginger made everyone feel welcomed and visited many sick and terminally ill parishioners over the years. Her favorite pass time was talking on the phone, checking in with family and friends always. She was known as the "energizer bunny".

Ginger leaves a lasting legacy with those she has left behind that include her beloved husband Wesley, children Nancy Herring, Wesley L. Herring, Paul (Yvonne) Herring and Elizabeth"Liz" (the late Tyson) Johnson. She was a devoted grandmother to Sarah Herring, Hope Johnson (fiance Brody Carroll), Danielle Herring, Andrew Herring, Nicholas (Janett) Johnson, and Nathaniel (Alyssa) Johnson. A fond sister of Herbert (Jane) Armstrong, the late James Armstrong, the late Dorothy Wojnatowski, the late Florence Bibb, the late Richard Armstrong, the late Beverly Winn, the late Rose Armstrong, and the late Alice Perry. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
