Virginia "Diddy" Joyce
Virginia "Diddy" Joyce, of Point Breeze, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. She was 99 years old. Diddy was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 25, 1922, a daughter of the late Paul and Helen Criswell. She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jiggs" Joyce; 2 children, Colleen Joyce and John "Jocko" Joyce (survived by Anna Marie); and 3 siblings, Mary Louise Felix, John "Buddy" Criswell, and Paul Criswell. Diddy is survived by her children, Maureen Hanley (the late Paul), Eileen Marchione (Rich) and Michael Joyce; 8 grandchildren, Kevin Hanley, Lauren Joyce, John "JP" Joyce, Stephen Joyce, Rich Marchione (Emily), Cara Silver (Andrew), Brendan Marchione (Brady), Abby Allen (Will); 10 great-grandchildren, Alaina, Kaylie, Riley Hanley and Alyese Reitz, Richie and Ethan Marchione, Henry, Emma and Annie Silver, and Greta Marchione; one great-great grandchild, James, and her brother Vince Criswell (Betty); also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Diddy and her family were blessed to have her friend, Janice Dzurovcin care for her in her later years. Her friendship provided daily comfort and companionship for Diddy. She was a long-time member of St. Bede Church, a loyal Pittsburgh sports fan (especially her beloved Pirates) and a loving member of the Point Breeze community. She spent many years proudly working at Carlow College in the mail room and cherished her daily interactions with the students. Diddy enjoyed playing card games with friends, vacationing with family to Fort Myers, catching up with friends and family over the phone, working through countless search-a-word puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren and keeping watch over Lloyd Street in Point Breeze from the chair on her porch. She will always be remembered by her loved ones for her sharp wit, sweet tooth and for teaching us that family is the most important gift in our lives. Family and Friends will be received at McCabe Brothers Funeral Home, 6214 Walnut Street, Shadyside on Sunday, April 24th from 2-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalene Parish, St. Bede Church on Monday, April 25th at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Diddy's name to Children's Institute of Pittsburgh, www.amazingkids.org/donate Condolences may be left at www.mccabebrothers.com
