Virginia "Hope" Malpass (Boogie), age 38, of Delco, ran straight into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday morning, April 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Hope was born on August 13, 1986 to Kevin and Cindy Malpass in Chapel Hill, NC. She was preceded in death by her nephew; Jenson Bear Malpass, maternal grandparents; Sigmond Bear Smith and Mary Virginia Smith, paternal grandmother; Linda Ruth Malpass and special great aunt; Barbara Rose Smith.
Hope was a graduate of East Columbus High School. She was appointed 1994 March of Dimes Ambassador for Southeastern North Carolina and served in that position for several years. She was in several commercials for the March of Dimes along with Craig Thomas and Jon Evans. Her photo was on Kevin Prince's race car. She also appeared in the movie: "Dare to Love." Jerry Wainwright named her the Men's UNCW basketball team's Little Seahawk.
Hope fought life's ups and downs with a positive attitude.
Left to cherish her memory are her mom and dad; Cindy and Kevin Malpass of Bolton, brothers; Chad and Jessie Malpass of Bolton and Hunter Malpass of Leland, nieces; Charleigh Malpass and Kennedy Malpass both of Bolton, paternal grandfather; Jesse Lee Malpass (Ruth) of Delco, special great uncle; Charles B. Smith of Bolton, best friends; Heather and Jonathon "Earl" Reaves and Bethany Hotte Dovell, special caregivers; Tana Hamilton, Kaitlyn Applewhite, special nurse; Amber Mitchell (MISU-Novant New Hanover Regional), and primary provider; Dr. John Hodgson, along with an abundance of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were all family to Hope.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Red Hill Pentecostal Church, 1383 Byrdville Freeman Rd., Delco, NC on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Calvin Malpass, Rev. Tim Rausch and Rev. Brian Beaver officiating. She will then be taken by horse drawn caisson to Cheerful Hope Baptist Church Cemetery to be laid to rest. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the church on Saturday, April 26, 2025. The congregation is invited to "walk with Hope" to the burial site behind the caisson after the service.
Pallbearers will be Sterlin Smith, Jared Bracey, Jonathan Reaves, Bethany Hotte Dovell, Heather Hollis Reaves, and Kaitlyn Applewhite. Honorary pallbearers will be JB Bordeaux, John Grice, Kevin Cook, Bradley Smith, Tristan Malpass and Cannon Smith.
