Virginia A. (Peachey) "Ginny" McMullen, age 88, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the HopeHealth Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Born in Malden, Massachusetts, on May 15, 1937, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Virginia F. (Patten) Peachey. Ginny grew up in Norwood, Massachusetts, and proudly graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1955. After high school, she started out in the teaching program at Bridgewater State College but soon discovered her true passion was in nursing. She quickly enrolled at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing, earning her RN in 1959. Her nursing journey began at Norwood Hospital, where she worked as a scrub nurse in the operating room. Throughout her career, Ginny formed lifelong friendships by joining the Association of Operating Room Nurses and the Massachusetts Nurses Association.
Ginny married her beloved husband, Robert L. McMullen, on April 27, 1963, at Saint Catherine's Church in Norwood. She designed her own wedding dress for the special day! The couple settled in East Walpole, where they welcomed three wonderful boys—Ken, Bill, and Mark. As a proud mom, Ginny loved keeping her boys looking their best, often sewing hems and mending their clothes. Ginny and Bob enjoyed hitting the road in their motor home with their sons, taking adventures to Maine each year, including trips to Point Sebago and floating down the Saco River—fond memories for the whole family.
In addition to her role as a loving mom, Ginny continued her nursing career at Norwood Hospital and later at Norwood Gynecology Care. When Norwood Hospital acquired Southwood Hospital in Norfolk, she returned to a hospital setting as the director of the operating room. After Southwood closed, Ginny moved back to Norwood Hospital, where she held the position of OR Director until her retirement in 2001. Even after retiring, Ginny’s caring nature never wavered—she continued working with Dr. Pauline Chao in Norwood as a nurse and office manager until she retired in 2015. She dedicated over fifty years to caring for her patients.
Ginny was also incredibly talented with sewing and knitting. She loved making her own patterns for curtains, quilts, and even clothing for American Girl Dolls for her granddaughters. Her knitting needles created countless blankets, scarves, mittens, socks, and baby sweaters—many of which she generously gave as gifts to family and friends.
An avid traveler, Ginny enjoyed adventures with her husband, Bob, and her friends from the Association of Operating Room Nurses. The couple took trips to Bermuda, reliving their honeymoon, as well as exploring Barbados and Florida. But her favorite way to travel was cruising on a ship, soaking in all the sights and relaxing as she sailed to new destinations. Ginny’s trips with her girlfriends were always a highlight—whether relaxing on Hawaii’s beaches or exploring Europe, she loved every moment and the fun that came with it.
Beloved wife of the late Robert L. McMullen.
Loving mother of Kenneth W. McMullen and his wife, Sheila, of Falmouth, William M. McMullen and his wife, Denise, of Foxborough, and Mark R. McMullen and his wife, Elizabeth, of Wrentham.
