Mrs. Virginia Beatrice Marshall Rakes, age 94 of Mount Airy, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy. Mrs. Rakes was born in Carroll County, Virginia on November 21, 1930, to the late Nancy Ann Easter and Harvey Washington Marshall. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving is her daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene Rakes Love, Waynette Rakes, Donna Rakes Berrier and Buck, Billy Morton; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Rakes and Margaret; fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren and one on the way; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd Marshall and Betty; special sister-in-law, Wanda Allen; along with many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rakes was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Rakes; a daughter, Jeannie Rakes Morton; a son, Christopher Rakes; sister, Lois Carter; three brothers. No formal services will be held at the request of Mrs. Rakes. A private interment will be held at Midkiff Cemetery in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Midkiff Cemetery Fund PO Box 1526, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or Joy Ranch 813 Joy Ranch Road, Woodlawn, VA 24381. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
