Mr. Melvin Samuel Ayers, 89 of Cana, passed away on Thursday morning October 23, 2025. He was born November 29, 1935, in Carroll County to the late Harless Beamer Ayers and Lucy Mae Ayers. He was a retired master electrician and a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Mr. Ayers is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Arvin and Robin Ayers; grandson, Alexander Ayers; great grandchildren, Lilian Carpenter and Christopher Carpenter; great great granddaughter, Eleanor Carpenter; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Esther Jane Ayers, and Juanita and David McMillian; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Howard and Shirley Ayers, Ralph and Conelia Ayers, Tommy and Susan Ayers, David Ayers, and Charles Ayers; many nieces and nephews; and several other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by his wife, Zelphia Pauline Gunnell Ayers; two sisters, Leah Naomi Ayers Metz and Ruth Emaline Ayers Guynn; and two brothers, Buford Micah Ayers and Kenneth Joel Ayers. Private graveside services will be held at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall, NC. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all of the love and support given to Melvin and the family. Memorial donations may be given in memory of Mr. Ayers to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, PO Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
